Bad Advice

Sermon Summary – Bad Advice: Part 1

Text: Colossians 2:8
Theme: The world offers advice that sounds good but leads us away from truth.

Summary:
In this message, we expose the subtle lies of the world’s “hollow and deceptive philosophies.” The most dangerous ideas aren’t always obvious—they're embedded in media, ads, and entertainment, quietly shaping our worldview. We examined three pieces of common but misleading advice:

  1. Question everything but yourself – The world teaches us to trust our own understanding above all else. But Scripture urges us to question ourselves first, recognizing our need for clarity that only Christ can bring (Matthew 7:3–5).

  2. You are special – While we are indeed created uniquely, our value doesn’t come from our differences but from being made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27).

  3. Follow your heart – The heart is deceitful and cannot be trusted (Jeremiah 17:9). True fulfillment comes not from following ourselves, but from denying ourselves and following Jesus (Matthew 16:24–26).

The world’s advice may sound appealing—but it’s a path to confusion and destruction. Only Christ offers clarity and truth.
