Bad Advice, Part 2

Sermon Summary – Bad Advice: Part 2

Theme: The world’s most common advice often sounds uplifting—but leads us away from Christ.

Summary:
In Part 2 of Bad Advice, we explore more of the subtle, well-meaning lies the world tells us—messages that feel empowering but ultimately deceive. These five phrases are everywhere, but each one leads us away from God's truth:

  1. Just be yourself – The world says you are enough just as you are. But the most natural version of yourself isn’t your best self. Scripture says the true you is found in Christ, not in your own impulses (Galatians 2:20). Don’t “be yourself”—die to self, and let Jesus live in you.

  2. You can do anything you put your mind to – This idea ignores the sovereign design of God and tempts us to chase worldly success. Instead, pursue what God created you to do. He equips you for His will, not the world’s dreams (Hebrews 13:20–21).

Conclusion:
Why does this matter? Because the world’s advice is everywhere—on identity, love, success, priorities—and without a filter, it can spoil your soul (Colossians 2:8). But God’s Word offers better advice: it is not only true, but the best way to live. Saturate your life in Scripture. Let it guide you—not hollow slogans, but holy truth.
