Sermon Summary – Know Ye Not That You Are a Temple?
Text: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Theme: God no longer dwells in temples made with hands—He dwells in us.
Summary:
In this sermon, we trace the story of God's presence throughout Scripture—from Eden to the Tabernacle, Solomon's Temple, and finally to Jesus Christ. When sin shattered the world, God initiated a plan to reclaim intimate fellowship with humanity. The temple was once the center of that connection, but in Christ, the meeting place between heaven and earth became a person.
Jesus identified His body as the true temple—and after His resurrection, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell not in buildings, but in believers. Paul declares, “You are the temple of the Holy Ghost.” This brings both a privilege—God dwells in you—and a responsibility—you are not your own. Every part of your life belongs to Him.
Not only are you a temple, but we—the gathered Church—are a temple together (Eph. 2:21–22). Our worship isn’t just routine; it’s where God desires to dwell. Our lives and our gatherings must reflect the holiness and glory of the God who lives within us.
In the end, Revelation shows us a world where there is no temple—because all of creation becomes God's dwelling place. The temple is the beginning—and the destiny—of God's redemptive plan.
